$20 Motorcycle

Kimber:  Mama, how many do I have to be to ride a motorcycle?

Me: 20!

Matthew: 20 dollars?

In the back seat talking amongst themselves, if we save our "monies" together we can get one faster.

Me:  20 years old....not $20!!!!!

Matthew:  But mama, 20 is SO OLD.

Pirate Chipmunk Flying Boat

Kimber was trying to explain to us what he wanted to watch yesterday with these exact words.....

Pirate Chipmunk Flying Boat

He meant Wonder Pets...pretty spot on description yes?

Lasterday

Lasterday:

The word Matthew uses to describe the previous night or day.

Love him!

And I quote

The things these boys say never fails to crack me up:

At Sam's today, after shopping we stopped to get them a pretzel at the snack bar, which is our tradition.

Me:  Kimber, do you want a salty pretzel or sugary pretzel?

Kimber:  I want PIZZA!

We borrow books and movies from the library each week and Matthew picked out Tarzan this week.  As he sits down to watch it he keeps wanting to know where Tarzan is and I repeatedly tell him which guy is Tarzan, to which he replies, "Mama, that is NOT Tarzan, he has princess hair and no dress".

Some Matthew-isms

He calls peanuts.... peanut butter nuts.

He is either going to be a storm trooper, captain america, darth vader, luke skywalker, Sher-Khan or chewbacca for Halloween, and these are just the ideas he has had in the last 24 hours.

I'm ready to plant seeds, now!

Some Kimber-isms

I have an idea (usually when he doesn't like what I have told him to do).

Papa, that chip not have handle (you know, the naked part of a chip after covering them with cheese), it's called a handle, apparently.

Mama, I have yogurt?

I beat you Matt/Mama/Papa, it seems every thing is a race these days.

Slacker

Yep, you guessed it, I have become a slacker in my old age.

Last week, okay...well several months ago... we made our first scarecrow and the boys were quite impressed with the mess that accompanied the construction phase, I am not sure our neighbors love the straw infested yard we now have but the boys have a scarecrow that is happily plopped on our porch guarding our pumpkins.

Upon completion of the scarecrow I was feeling pretty proud, I thought it turned out cute and the boys were sitting in his lap when all of the sudden Matthew discovered that our scarecrow did not have "parts".  Yes, that is my word for little boy genitalia and no, it never occurred to me to make our scarecrow anatomically correct.  Who knew the quality control police would go lurking in the scarecrows drawers?

Our happy...penis-free...scarecrow, or scarecrowess?

Oh SH#*!

You are already aware that I am less than perfect.  Recently, that truth was further confirmed.  Matthew phrase of choice these days when something does not go quite as planned is "Oh shit".  I really wish I could blame this one on Will, but I can't.  This is TOTALLY 100% me.

I have thought and thought about how to react and now that I am moving past the busting out laughing phase I have started saying "Awww man" all the while telling him that's what Papa would say (and if Papa is doing it the coolness quotient is WAY up there in his book).

So today, I was listening to him as he knocked over the block tower he was building, he promptly said "Oh shit, awww man" without skipping a beat.  While I didn't bust out laughing, since I am through that phase, I certainly giggled to myself while wondering how exactly to FIX this parenting mishap of mine?

Any ideas?

And I quote....again...

Tonight while trying to settle the boys down we were talking about our day.  Matthew was asking me where Papa was and I explained that he was reading in the living room. He then told me that "Papa is coloring in books, we not color in books Mama, we color on paper."  He was technically correct, Willie was highlighting some things in the book he was reading.

Here I was thinking that watching our language was the biggest hurdle but man, nothing gets by these little people.  I am also VERY ADAMANT about us not coloring in books, guess I am going to have to hide the highlighters from Papa?

Innocence is.....

My little 3 year old seeing his first ice cream truck at the park today and pointing to it and saying

"That bus sings songs".

Things I Never Thought I Would Say

After our recent trip to the zoo and watching Madagascar 90,236 times, this is a common request around here:

"Please roar quietly, you're scaring Kimber", mind you Kimber is sitting in his carseat next to Matthew with a look of complete adoration.

Mono.....Mono......Mono........

No, no one in our house has Mono. "Mono" is how Matthew says "Bravo".

His German teacher says bravo to the kids for a job well done and some part of his Curious George DVD utilizes the word as well.

We have been potty training pretty hard the last few weeks and tonight after dinner I walked into the bathroom and Matthew was standing on his stool pee-peeing into the potty. This was the first time he went on his own without asking me to assist. I was elated and when I saw him I started praising him profusely and he jumped off the stool and screamed...."mono...mono....mono". I died laughing and am still amused at my little man.

"Baby sit......Mama dig"

Matthew took his time to start talking but boy oh boy has he made strides. He comes up with something new on an almost daily basis. Some of my favorite original quotes....

"Baby sit.....Mama dig"
So it is spring and that means our afternoons are spent digging up weeds, planting, and so many other outdoor tasks. Matthew loves to use a shovel, he also likes to watch me use a shovel. One afternoon, I felt Kimber had eaten enough mulch for the day so I was carrying him around while Matthew was playing and he looks at me and says the above. I cracked up....and of course had to reward his effort by putting another scoop of dirt in his dump truck!

"Side Mama"
Translation......I want to go outside, and I hear this no less than 5 times a day, and we spend A LOT of time outdoors.

"Matt gloves work side"
The boy loves wearing his gloves and so wants to be like Dad and go outside and work.

shhhhhhh.....church

We have been trying local churches recently and have been taking the boys into the worship service with us. As you can imagine, there is a lot of shhhhushing that occurs during the service, so much so that as we drive by the church Matthew points and says "Shhhh-Church".

I think next week we are going to take advantage of the nursery, maybe they won't get shushed quite as much?

Ka...Ka....Ka....Baby

In the months leading up to Kimber's birth we talked endlessly about "the baby" in an effort to prepare Matthew for Kimber's arrival. Matthew has transitioned quite nicely from an only child to a big brother. Over the past few weeks we have been attempting to teach Matthew that baby has a name. While I realize this is probably a foreign concept for a two-something, we have nonetheless made an effort.

Willie was sitting on the couch with Matthew and Baby a few nights ago and this dialogue was repeated no fewer than five times.

Willie: ka.........ka.........ka.......Kimber

Matthew: ka........ka........ka......baby

So....for the moment Kimber is being affectionately called Kababy!!

I hope we have a resolution so Kimber doesn't pass by Matthew in the hallway in high school and get called Kababy....
